Welcome to our January 2025 newsletter! As we step into the new year with optimism and hope for positive change in our community, we are excited to share FJNWA’s goals for the year ahead. This issue also highlights upcoming community events such as the Ward 1 Townhall Meeting on January 23rd, the Aurora Seed Swap on February 8th, and an opportunity for both current and aspiring farmers, and farmer supporters.
¡Felíz año nuevo! Bienvenidos a nuestro boletín de enero del 2025. A medida que le damos la bienvenida al nuevo año con optimismo y esperanza de que haya un cambio positivo en nuestra comunidad. Nos gustaría compartir los objetivos de FJNWA para el año que viene. En este boletín también incluimos lo que está por venir en la comunidad, como la junta comunitaria del 23 de enero en el distrito 1 del noroeste de Aurora, el “Aurora Seed Swap” o intercambio de semillas de Aurora del 8 de Febrero. FJNWA Goals and Strategies

In 2025, FJNWA is launching work in two new priority areas.
- Vacant and Underutilized Land for Urban Agriculture
- Support Existing Small Markets

Attend the Townhall Meeting!
¡Venga a la Junta Comunitaria!
Join us at the Townhall Meeting where city councilwoman Crystal Murillo will talk about a new development plan for northwest Aurora. We want community members to provide feedback on the plan and play an active role in shaping our neighborhood in northwest Aurora. It is important to work together and share ideas about any changes we want to see regarding housing, local businesses, community safety, and more. Free dinner, Spanish interpretation, and childcare will be provided. Please see the image below for more details.
Venga a la Junta Comunitaria, donde la concejala de noroeste Aurora Crystal Murillo va a hablar del nuevo plan de desarrollo para el noroeste de Aurora. Queremos que miembros de la comunidad den su opinión y participen en la formación de nuestro vecindario en el noroeste de Aurora. Es muy importante colaborar y compartir ideas sobre los cambios que queremos realizar con la vivienda, mercados locales, seguridad comunitaria y mucho más. Intercambio de Semillas
Join the Aurora Seed Swap to exchange unique, locally adapted seeds and connect with fellow gardeners! Share, discover, and grow your garden while supporting sustainable, water-wise practices. Free event!
How to Participate in the Seed Swap:
Take home seeds—for free!
Bring packets of seeds to swap
Packets must be labeled with their variety
Paper envelopes are preferred but plastic baggies are accepted
Home-grown seeds and purchased seeds are welcome
"Expired" seeds are acceptable back to 2019 (except for squash and beans which do not expire)

¡Lleva semillas a la casa—gratuitamente!
Trae sobres con semillas para intercambiar
Los sobres deben tener escrito el tipo de semilla y su variedad
Se prefieren sobres de papel, pero también se aceptan bolsitas plásticas
Se aceptan semillas cultivadas en casa y semillas compradas
Las semillas "vencidas" son aceptables desde 2019 (excepto para calabazas y frijoles, ya que no se vencen)

The 2025 Producers Summit led by Mile High Farmers is coming up January 31st - February 1st! If you are interested in learning more about farmer focus and care (for experienced and aspiring farmers), and/or how to uplift farmers through strengthening food systems from the ground up, please register through the link below.
La Reunión de Productores 2025, organizada por la organización sin fines de lucro Mile High Farmers, será desde el 31 de enero hasta el 1 de febrero. Si le interesa saber más sobre cómo un agricultor puede cuidarse de sí mismo ( Este enfoque es para agricultores experimentados o aspirantes), y/o cómo ayudar a los agricultores a través del fortalecimiento de los sistemas alimentarios desde la base, por favor registrarse aquí.

This month, we’re starting with “Food Access.”
El lenguaje determina nuestra forma de pensar y de conectarnos con el mundo que nos rodea. ¡Para celebrarlo, estamos muy contentos de presentarles un nuevo segmento: La idea del mes! Cada mes, vamos a presentar una palabra o una frase que provoque ideas, conversaciones y acciones.
